JoyceDeWitt started performing on stage at the age of 13. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree at Ball State University. Then, when she was acting in summer shows when she met with the director, she convinced her to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program,where she was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt has claimed that she didn't meet the actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as secretary during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most famous for her performance in the series Three's Company's run from 1977 to 1984 as Janet Wood. This was a job that she got after being cast in the pilot episode that followed. Janet was also featured in an episode of The Ropers that she appeared in during 1979. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984 after which she quit acting for a number of years. She resumed acting with participation in the production of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991. The actress also appeared in the show Spring Fling which was a 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain featured characters an adaptation of her voice voice that was voiced by another actress in 1997. The actress was in the episode Cybill and made a brief appearance in Living Single's last episode. Her work in the 2000s include television shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
